Obituary: Mary E. Blanchard “Beloved mother” Shinglehouse, PA---Mary E. Blanchard, 87, of Shinglehouse, PA, died Sunday, September 6, 2009 in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, PA, after a short illness. Born February 24, 1922 in Altoona, PA, she was a daughter of Stanley and Veronica Wheeling Elniskey. On June 23, 1944 in Olean, NY, she married Herbert T. Blanchard, who died on March 4, 1986. She attended Olean Public Schools. Mrs. Blanchard was employed at the former Hewitt Manor Nursing in Shinglehouse in the laundry. She was also employed as a housekeeper in private homes in Shinglehouse. Mrs. Blanchard was a devoted member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Shinglehouse; a member of the former St. Theresa’s Guild; and a former member of the Oswayo Valley Senior Center and its Kitchen Band in Shinglehouse. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing, gardening with her husband, and going on senior bus trips. Most especially, she loved being with her son. Surviving is her son, Rodney H. Blanchard of Shinglehouse, PA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Blanchard was predeceased by a daughter, Bonnie E. Blanchard on August 4, 1966; seven sisters, Helen Rapchick, Celia Veno, Phyllis Gardinich, Nellie Rogosienski, Annie Kerst, Catherine Alexsa, and Stella Parks; and two brothers, Mike Elniskey and Frank Elniskey. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Theresa Catholic Church, Shinglehouse, PA with Father John J. Murphy, pastor, as celebrant. Committal services and burial will be held in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse, PA. The Vigil Scripture service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the funeral home. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to St. Theresa Catholic Church, PO Box 277, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
