Carrol Kemp
SHINGLEHOUSE- Carrol B. Kemp, 86. of Eleven Mile Road died Sunday (Jan. 11, 2004) in
Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.
Born Oct. 8, 1917, in Eleven Mile, he was a son of Ora C. and Alta Jones Kemp.
On May 21, 1943, in Chrystal, he married Hazel Goodspeed, who died Sept. 22, 1997.
Mr. Kemp attended Chrystal County School and was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School,
class of 1934. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II.
He was a self-employed carpenter, working for several years in Bradford and Wellsville, N.Y
. and later worked for the former Downer Hardware Store in Genesee. He retired in 1978 from
Air Preheater Co. in Wellsville after 20 years of service.
He was a member of the Chrystal United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer for
many years.
He is survived by one son, Thomas W. Kemp of Shinglehouse; one daughter, Eloise F. Leedom
of Massena, N.Y.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Lynn V. Kemp of
Millport; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother. Murray E.
Kemp and one sister, Lila C. Higley.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral
Home, where funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral
home. The Rev. Fred E. Kemp, Mr. Kemp's nephew, and the Rev. Warren C. Lash. pastor of
Chrystal United Methodist Church, will co-officiate. Burial will be in the Chrystal
Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chrystal Memorial Fund, c/o Carl
