Fred W. Kemp, a well known resident of Shinglehouse, died at his home on Academy Street about 5:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, following a six day illness of pneumonia, pleurisy and jaundice. The direct cause of his death was embolism. He was an engineer on the N.Y. & P. railway and was taken ill while on duty at Whitesville and had to be taken from his engine. Everything that could be done for him was done.
The deceased was born at Eleven Mile 43 years ago, and he had always resided in the vicinity and Shinglehouse, coming here about twelve years ago. He had been employed by the railroad company for the past fourteen years, and was a steady, painstaking man an loved his work. He was a jolly, good-natured man and well liked by every employee along the line. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Engineers, also a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge in Shinglehouse.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bela Kemp of Eleven Mile, three brothers, Ernest Kemp of Eleven Mile, and Ora and Clarence Kemp of Alma, one sister, Mrs. Fred Dunshie of Millport, also a sister by adoption, Mrs. Claude Crandall of Alma. Also a nephew, Wilder Beckwith, who has lived with him ever since he was a baby and was thought as much by Mr. Kemp as an own son.
Mr. Kemp's wife died only a few months ago.
The funeral will be held at the Baptist church in this place Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock. The burial will be made in the cemetery at Sharon Centre.
