Cecil N. Olmstead, 85, of Shinglehouse, PA, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010 in Select Specialty Hospital, Erie, after a long illness.Born May 24, 1924 in Honeoye, PA, he was a son of Nathaniel M. and Zella Smith Olmstead. On September 3, 1942 in Millport, he married Edna L. Brabham, who survives.Mr. Olmstead attended the former Honeoye Country School. He was a farmer in Little Genesee, NY. After moving to Shinglehouse, he was employed in the local oil and gas fields. Later he was a self-employed water well driller, owning Cecil Olmstead Water Well Drilling.He enjoyed fishing; hunting; gardening, where in 1997 he grew a record size cabbage; and traveling, especially to Alaska to visit his family.Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Carolyn L. (Richard) Calkins of Salcha, Alaska, and Dorothy M. Jackson and Linda M. (Thomas) Tronetti, both of Port Allegany; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Albert W. (Jerri) Olmstead of Shinglehouse; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Mr. Olmstead was predeceased by a daughter, Bernice J. Olmstead; a son, C. Kenneth Olmstead; two grandsons; four brothers, Leland Olmstead, Llwellyn Olmstead, Elwin Olmstead, and Richard Olmstead; and two sisters, Zelma Mitchell and Eva Cole. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 2, 2010 at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA. The Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, officiated.
