Esther L. Mesler “loving mom, grandma, & great-grandma” SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Esther L. Mesler, 92, of Shinglehouse, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, in Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford with her loving family by her side. Born July 15, 1919 in Shinglehouse, she was a daughter of Anton J. and Margaret Stoehr Franz. On June 18, 1941 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Genesee, she married Martin J. Mesler, who died on March 30, 1983. Mrs. Mesler was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School, class of 1937 and a graduate of the former Westbrook Academy in Olean, NY. She was employed by the former Carl Case Lumber Mill in Shinglehouse, working in the office. She later was employed at the Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse in the cafeteria until her retirement. Mrs. Mesler was a member of St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Shinglehouse and was a member of the former Altar Guild of the church. She enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time at the library. Her greatest love was her family. She was affectionately known as “Grandma PJ”. Surviving are a son, Martin J. “Jim” (Ginger) Mesler of Green Valley, Arizona; a daughter, Mary Anne Kahm of Olean; seven grandchildren, Tonya R. Doxey, M. James Mesler III, David M. Kahm, John V. Mesler, Kimberly A. Goodwyn, Matthew G. Kahm, and Sara E. Williams; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Mesler was predeceased by three brothers; six sisters; a daughter-in-law, Carla Dunshie Mesler who died in 1983; and a son-in-law, David L. Kahm, who died in 2011. Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday, July 14, 2012 in St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, Shinglehouse with Father Thomas Brown, pastor, celebrant. Committal services and burial will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse. The Rosary will be recited on Friday evening at 8:30 pm in the funeral home.
