Cleon D. Hastings

Cleon DeWaine Hastings, 66, died about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday at Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville of injuries suffered earlier in the day in a home welding shop accident.

Mr. Hastings, who was self employed, was grinding a weld on a three-inch pipe with an industrial grinder. The stone apparently broke and struck him in the face. Cause of death was listed as a fractured skull and severe facial wounds.

The shop is located in the garage west of the home, located near Allentown on Rt. 17.

The deceased was born July 6, 1897, in Myrtle, Pa., a son of DeWaine and Bell Dennis Hastings. He was a member of Macedonia Lodge, F & AM of Bolivar.

Survivors include his widow, the former Edith Thompson; three sons, Lawrence of Webster, Leonard of Albion and Lowell of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Lillian O'Connor of Rochester; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the Schaffner Funeral Home, Bolivar, by the Rev. Burdette Fuller of the Allentown Methodist Church. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
