Curtis L. Perkins
Curtis L. Perkins, 87, of Shinglehouse, died December 25, 1999, in Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, after a short illness.
He was born on April 9, 1912, in Shinglehouse, a son of Elmo W. and Dora Curtis Perkins. On April 18, 1935, in Portland, ME, he married the former Hazel F. MacMillan, who died on May 19, 1982.
He was a graduate of Shinglehouse, class of l929.
. In 1933 in Portland, Mr. Perkins went to work for Texaco Oil, he then transferred to River Rouge, MI, as an assistant agent. He retired in 1975 and returned to the family homestead in Shinglehouse.
Mr. Perkins was a member of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities. He was a former president of the Oswayo Valley School Board, where be was instrumental in establishing the VoTech program at Oswayo Valley. He was a past secretary and treasurer of the Maple Grove Cemetery Association, Shinglehouse. He was also instrumental in establishing the Shinglehouse Food Cupboard. He was a member and past master of Allen Park Masonic Lodge #580, Allen Park, MI. He was also a member of the Oswayo Valley Historical Society, Shinglehouse.
Surviving is one son, Curtis William 'Sonny' Perkins of Shinglehouse; one brother, Olin Perkins of Shinglehouse, two sisters, Mrs. Doris F. Washburn of Belmont and Mrs. Lois McClain of Shinglehouse and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Perkins was preceded in death by one brother, Edgar A. Perkins and one sister, Mrs. Helen L. Voorhees.
A memorial service was held On December 28, 1999 in the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church. The Rev. Randall W. Headley, pastor and the Rev. M.H. Vincent of Shinglehouse, officiated. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
Members of the Sharon Lodge #598 F&AM conducted memorial services Tuesday in the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church following the memorial service.
