Bruce Maxson
SHINGLEHOUSE -- Bruce C. Maxson, 72, of Sevens Street, died Monday in his home after a brief illness.
He was born Oct. 26, 1922, in Bolivar, N.Y., a son of Leslie and Beaulah Blinn Maxson, who survives.
Mr. Maxson attended Bolivar High School, where he was a member of the football team.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the U.S.S. LST-7, LST-212 and the Pacific U.S.S. Mayo Destroyer 422. On that ship, Seaman Maxson served as head medic. He served two years in the Europe and one year in the Pacific.
He was employed in the local oil fields, and was a foreman at the former Vico Furniture Co. in Eldred. He was also employed by Air Preheater of Wellsville, N.Y., and the Olean (N.Y.) Tile Plant.
He was a member and past commander of the Shinglehouse American Legion Post 530, where he served in the color guard. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2092 of Eldred, and was a life member and past president of the Shinglehouse Volunterr Fire Department.
Surviving besides his wife are one son, Terry B. Maxson of Little Genesee, N.Y.; two daughters, Brenda S. Fink of Little Genesee and Carla D. Lorshbaugh of Shinglehouse; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one brother, Tony Maxson of Jenson Beach, Fla.; one sister, Barbara Mellace of Charleston, W. Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son Joe Gary Maxson.
Friends may call from 2 to 40 qnd 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev Russell J. Horning , pastor of the First Baptist Church of Shinglehouse, and the Rev. M.H. Vincent of Shinglehouse will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
American Legion Post 530 and the Potter County Honor Guard will accord full military honors.
