Mary W. Jenkins Davis “beloved mother and grandmother”


OLEAN, NY---Mary W. Jenkins Davis, 88, of Olean, formerly of Shinglehouse, PA, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 in the Bradford Manor, Bradford, PA, after a long illness.

Born November 23, 1926 in the Mountain Clinic in Olean, NY, she was a daughter of Frank and Ella Moody Walker. In 1946 in Chrystal, PA, she married Harold B. Jenkins, who died in 1988. In 1996 she married William Davis, Jr. who died in 2010.

She graduated from Shinglehouse High School and attended Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio. At age 40 she earned her licensed practical nursing degree in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Mrs. Davis was a member of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church and a member of the Mary Martha group of the church. She later attended the First Baptist Church in Shinglehouse. She loved attending Bible study groups. Mary had been a Sunday school teacher, a Girl Scout leader, and a volunteer for the Potter County Hospice. She was a member of the former Holiday Ramblers in Shinglehouse. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, painting, and camping. She loved picnics, but most especially loved spending time with her family.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. Thomas F. (MaryKay) Jenkins of Denver, Colorado and Harold O. (Anna) Jenkins of Allentown, PA; a daughter, Peggy J. (Richard) Windsor of Olean; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Davis was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Walker and Holmes Walker; and a sister, Ruth Walden.

There will be no public visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA with the Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
