Obituary: Derek A. Trowbridge “Beloved Son, Brother and Uncle”
Derek Anthony Trowbridge, 23, of Wellsville, NY, formerly of Gold, PA and Shinglehouse, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 23, 2014.
Born January 25, 1990 in Olean, NY, he was a son of Bruce and Sherry Meyer Trowbridge. Throughout his school years, Derek excelled academically and had participated in the Enrichment program from Elementary through High School. He completed one year of college at Lynchburg Community College with studies in business.
Derek worked in the family businesses, Trowbridge’s Furniture in Galeton, PA and Wellsville, NY and Village Carpet in Coudersport.
As a youth, Derek attended Faith Bible Church in Little Genesee where he was a part of the Awana Club and the teen program. He also attended JAM Club at Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church in Shinglehouse as a child. Derek accepted the Lord Jesus as his Saviour in the Fall of 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Galeton, PA.
He collected baseball cards and coins. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the NY Mets and the Miami Dolphins. He loved to fish and hunt. At nine years of age he hooked a trophy pike, having his picture in the newspaper. In his teen years he was proud to have shot a 12 point buck. In the summer he enjoyed playing in the Ultimate Frisbee League in Shinglehouse with his brothers. He was an avid roller blader, loved to bowl, play pool, and ping pong.
Derek loved to play baseball, having started playing tee ball as a child, advancing to junior Little League, then Little League, playing on the Shinglehouse Babe Ruth All Star Team, and then playing baseball through his high school years. He also wrestled and played basketball while in school.
Derek was very family oriented, loved his family, and enjoyed “hanging out” with his brothers.
Surviving are his parents; five brothers, Joe, Shane (Jessica), Bruce III (Daniela), Shaun (Janelle) and Aaron; two nephews, Dylan and Kyran; a niece, Aurora; many aunts, uncles, cousins; and his special cat, Frankie.
Derek was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harold Bruce and Theresa Trowbridge; and his maternal grandparents, Joe and Ruth Meyer.
Friends may call on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Faith Bible Church, Little Genesee, NY from 10 a.m. to noon. Funeral services will follow at noon with The Rev. Clint E. Pearsall, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse, PA.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
