Obituary: SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Leon H. “Skip” Spike, 46, of Shinglehouse, PA, formerly of Hornell, NY, died on Thursday, September 6, 2012 in his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 1, 1965 in Hornell, NY, he was the son of William L. Spike, Sr. and Betty Lou Quade Spike. On April 23, 2010 in Shinglehouse, he married Laurie K. Anderson, who survives. Mr. Spike graduated from the Arkport Central School, Class of 1983. Mr. Spike proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant, from September 1983 to November 1992. He was most recently employed at HP Hood in Arkport. He also was proud of the cabinets that he made while he worked at Beaver Creek Industry in Canaseraga. Mr. Spike was a member of the Shinglehouse American Legion Post #530. He was also a member of the New York State Teamsters Union. In his spare time, Mr. Spike enjoyed playing cards, hunting, completing home improvement projects, and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife and mother of Hornell, he is survived by a son, Issac G. (Lindsay Farris) Spike of Bradford; a daughter, Natalya M. Spike of Buffalo, NY; a step-son, Eric. R. Anderson of El Paso, TX; a step-daughter, Allison M. Anderson of Pittsburgh, PA; a brother, William L. Spike Jr., of Hornell, NY; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mr. Spike was predeceased by his father. Friends may call on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union St., Shinglehouse, from 6 to 8 p.m. and also on Monday, September 10, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at which time funeral services will be held, with the Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse. Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Potter County Hospice, 1001 East 2nd St., Coudersport, PA 16915.
