David M. Kemp


David M Kemp, 62, of Turkey Path Road, Shinglehouse, died Wednesday (Jan. 8, 1997) at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, after a short illness.

He was born Sept 28,1934,in Olean, N.Y., the son of Murray E. and Ethel Densmore Kemp. On July IS, 1967, he married the forme rGloria J. Wilson, who survives.

Mr. Kemp was a 1952 graduate of Shinglehouse High School and was a graduate of the former Buffalo Bible Institute in 1955. In 1959, he graduated from Taylor University, Upland, Ind., with a degree in teaching.

After 35 years of service, Mr. Kemp retired in 1994 from Oswayo Valley High School, where he instructed history, English and special education students.

At the time of his death, he was pastor of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, Knights Creek, N.Y., where he bad served for several years.

An avid historian, Mr. Kemp gave lectures and prepared a slide presentation of the history of Oswayo Valley.

Mr. Kemp belonged to the Oswayo Valley Historical Society and the Potter County Historical Society. He was a former Oswayo Township secretary and supervisor for over 20 years. He was a former president of the Potter County Township Officials and past president of the Oswayo Valley High School Alumni Assn. He bad also been president of the former Potter County Concerned Citizens group.

Mr. Kemp served as Yearbook Advisor at Oswayo Valley High School.

He Officiated many marriages the Shinglehouse area and had an extensive antique record and victrolia collection. He also collected and repaired antique clocks.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father of Coudersport; a son, Matthew D. Kemp, at home; a daughter, Annette E. Kemp, at home; a brother, Neil D. Kemp of Pennsburg; two sisters, June K. Murry and Jane K. Rice, both of Shinglehouse; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday (Jan. 11, 1997) at Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, where the Rev. Carl Kemp, co-pastor of Evangelical United Methodist Church, Knights Creek, N.Y. the Rev. Russell J. Homing, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Shinglehouse and the Rev. Clint Pearsall, of Coudersport Alliance Church, were co-officiants. Burial was in Crystal Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may he made to Shinglehouse Community Emergency Fund, P.O.Box 517,Shinglehouse, Pa. 16748.
