Obituary: Shinglehouse, PA---Joanne Adele Beckwith, 77, of Shinglehouse, PA, went to be with the Lord surrounded by her loving family in her home on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 after a courageous battle with ALS Disease. Born July 29, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY, she was a daughter of Karl and Adelheid Heimsoth Wittek. On March 30, 1952, she married Kenneth E. Hellmann, who died on September 8, 1987. On February 13, 1999 in Shinglehouse, she married James M. Beckwith, who survives. Mrs. Beckwith was employed at the former Hewitt Manor Nursing Home in Shinglehouse and retired from the Radiology Department at the Olean General Hospital in Olean. She was a very active member of Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church in Shinglehouse. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. Her greatest love was being with her family. Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Karl E. (Darlene) Hellmann of Denver, PA and Steven K. Hellmann of Lansdale, PA; two daughters, Heidi J. (John) Gore of Delmar, Delaware and Linda A. (Randy) Wilber of Portville, NY; a stepson, the Rev. Terry L. (Tresa) Beckwith of Albany, NY; a stepdaughter, Natalie (Dan) Tice of Coudersport; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Tilly Markowski of Gresham, Oregon, Claire Greco of Dumont, NJ, and Karin Piazza of Red Bank, NJ; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Beckwith was predeceased by her parents and first husband. At Joanne's request there will be no public visitation. Private funeral services will be held in the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA with the Rev. Roger N. Hain, pastor of Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the East Sharon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
