Obituary: Harold J. Morris “beloved husband, father & grandfather” Shinglehouse, PA---Harold Jackson Morris, 90, of Shinglehouse, PA, formerly of Sharon Center, died Thursday, January 7, 2010 in the Bradford Ecumenical Home, Bradford, PA. Born October 19, 1919 in Millport, PA, he was the son of Jackson L. and Nellie Hay Morris. On February 25, 1942 in Coudersport, PA, he married Mary Ruth Thomas, who survives. He was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School. After high school, he attended a mechanical trade school in Shippensburg, PA. Mr. Morris was a U.S. Army veteran attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant serving during World War II in North Africa and Europe. For many years he worked in local oil and gas fields and was later employed for 18 years at Air Preheater in Wellsville, NY retiring in January of 1982. He was a member of the former Millport Evangelical United Brethren Church and a member of the Oswayo Valley Senior Center in Shinglehouse, where Harold was a volunteer handyman. He was a life member of the Shinglehouse American Legion Post 530, actually having helped construct the post. He loved to fish and hunt. He also loved to do carpentry work. His greatest love was his family; he especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing. Surviving besides his wife are a son, Jerry K. (Evelyn) Morris of Whitesville, NY; two daughters, Sharon E. (Ted) Seamans of Williamsville, NY and Judy C. (Mark) Shaw of Olean, NY; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Morris was predeceased by his stepfather, Fred McAllister; and two stepsisters, Augusta Ward and Jane Foote. Friends may call on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA. In keeping with Harold’s wishes, funeral services will be private. The Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, PA, will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the Oswayo Valley Senior Center, 1005 East Honeoye Street, Shinglehouse, PA 16748 or to the Shinglehouse Volunteer Ambulance Association, PO Box 98, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
