Obituary: Adelia "Dee" Nichols, 86, formerly of Farmers Valley, passed away Saturday (March 10, 2012) at Sena-Kean Manor in Smethport following a long illness.
Born Dec. 29, 1925, in Rixford, she was a daughter of Clifford Monroe and Ida Church and was raised by her second mother Mary Harmon Monroe. On Aug. 17, 1944, in Bradford, she married Richard R. Nichols, who passed away May 14, 1997.
She attended grade school in Rixford and was a 1943 graduate of Otto High School. She had resided in Farmers Valley since 1946.
Mrs. Nichols was employed by Boise Cascade which later became Sunoco Products for 14 years, retiring in 1987.
Surviving are four sons, Frederick (Mary Lou) Nichols of Leesburg, Fla., Daniel (Katy) Nichols of Spring, Texas, Bruce (Carol) Nichols of Lake St. Louis, Mo., and Owen Nichols of Farmers Valley; two daughters, Madolyn Straight of Smethport and Sylvia Brown of Farmers Valley; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Donald (Dolores) Monroe of Ceres, N.Y., Richard (Beverly) Monroe of Little Genesee, N.Y., Llewelyn (Ellen) Monroe of Lithia Springs, Ga., and Robert (Janice) Monroe of Mount Dora, Fla.; and two sisters, Evelyn Montalbo of Portville, N.Y., and Joyce Lemmer of Ceres.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Royal Snyder in 1991; and a grandson, Guy Nichols in 2006.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Jerry Stauffer, officiating. Burial will follow in Rathbone Cemetery, Coneville.
