William E. Newton

Sharon Center, PA----William E. “Bill” Newton, 80, of Sharon Center, died Saturday, September 13, 2008 in Cuba Memorial Hospital Primary Care Unit, Cuba, NY, after a short illness.




Born September 23, 1927 in Sharon Center, PA, he was a son of Wallace and Cora M. Corwin Newton.




He was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School, class of 1945. Mr. Newton was a dairy farmer for many years running the family farm and for several years was employed by the former Nichols and Nichols Gas Well Bailing Company in Shinglehouse, PA. He retired from the former Clark Brothers in Olean, NY after being employed for 38 years as a tool grinder.





He enjoyed going to auctions and spending time with his dog, Blondie. Mr. Newton was the longtime caretaker of the Sharon Center Cemetery.




Surviving are two sisters, Mildred M. Boats of Olean, NY and Elna D. (Howard) Murray of Lecanto, Florida; a brother, Leslie C. “Jim” (Cecilia) Newton of Friendship, NY; and several nieces and nephews.




In addition to his parents, Mr. Newton was predeceased by one brother, Lyle F. Newton; and two sisters, Irene A. Loucks and Essie Vandernick.




Friends may call on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, PA, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sharon Center Cemetery.
